The Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS) announces the
second webinar in the Fall 2012 Career Development Webinar Series,
scheduled for Tuesday, 9 October 2012 at 5:00 p.m. GMT. For information

This webinar is entitled "Academic Balancing Acts: Getting it Right with
Advisors, Grad Programs, and a Real Life." It will be presented by a
panel of polar scientists and mentors including Julie Brigham-Grette,
professor at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst; Mary Albert,
professor at Dartmouth College; and Mike Retelle, professor at Bates
College. This webinar is specially tailored for undergraduate and
graduate students who are looking for solutions in managing their
current and future education and career goals. The panel presentation
will include discussions on academic skills; balancing school, work, and
advisors; gaining research experience; the importance of networking;
sleuthing out grad school; thesis writing; and getting published.
