  1. Center for Climate and Energy Solutions seeks Staff Scientist and
    Program Director
    Arlington, Virginia

The Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES) seeks a staff
scientist and program director to manage the Science and Impacts
program. The position is full-time, starting in October 2012, and is
located in Arlington, Virginia.

C2ES is the successor to the Pew Center on Global Climate Change, which
was founded in 1998 with the support of the Pew Charitable Trusts as an
independent force for pragmatic climate action. The position reports to
the Executive Vice President.

The staff scientist and program director will manage the Science and
Impacts program and staff; oversee C2ES's efforts to assess the current
state of scholarly knowledge about the science and environmental impacts
of climate change; work with other programs to communicate this
knowledge to a variety of stakeholders; collaborate with the C2ES
management team to identify strategic opportunities to raise awareness
of climate risks and meaningful actions to address them; provide
analysis and advice related to climate change science and impacts to
other C2ES staff and managers as the senior in-house technical expert;
and collaborate with the C2ES management team and development staff to
raise funds to support the program and its projects.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in a technical field relevant
to climate science and impacts; a broad knowledge of climate change
science and impacts, adaptation, vulnerability assessment, and
adaptation and mitigation options; and demonstrated public speaking and
writing ability for non-technical audiences. Experience interacting with
policymakers; knowledge of federal and state impacts assessments and
climate-related policies; and strong working relationships in the
climate science and impacts community are highly desirable.

    Exploration and Production

TOTAL, a publicly traded integrated oil and gas company, seeks a junior
ice/arctic engineering specialist to join their Exploration and
Production team. The position is full-time, starting as soon as
possible, and is based in Paris, France.

The junior engineer will work in association with a senior ice
engineering specialist in project development including feasibility
studies, design development, project design and construction, and
structure maintenance and repair in cold regions.

The successful candidate will have an engineering or research degree in
ice engineering or an equivalent such as civil engineering with ice
specialization, oceanography with ice specialization, or naval
architecture with ice specialization. Candidates should have more than
three years of experience in ice related activities and strong ice
engineering methodology experience. Candidate shall also have a high
level of awareness of health and safety issues, be fluent in both spoken
and written English, be willing to travel in the arctic environment, and
be able to operate flexibly and sensitively in multi-cultural teams and
local environments. Knowledge of Russian culture is a plus.

  1. Tides Canada seeks Arctic Senior Associate
    Community Support Initiative
    Toronto, Canada

Tides Canada, a registered charitable organization, seeks an arctic
senior associate to help create a new program of philanthropic activity
in northern Canada. The position is full-time with a two-year
appointment, which may be renewed, and is based in Toronto, Canada.

Tides Canada is comprised of the Tides Canada Foundation, which is a
national public foundation focused on environmental and social justice
issues; and the associated Tides Canada Initiatives Society, which is a
charity that houses nearly 40 social and environmental projects across
Canada.

The new program of philanthropic activity will include communities in
the Northwest Territories, Yukon, and Nunavut territories as well as
Nunavik (Northern Quebec) and Nunatsiavut (Northern Labrador). The
successful candidate will help develop and sustain relationships with
key institutional and individual donors and northern partners and work
with a growing strategic programs team to implement granting programs
and service work.

The ideal candidate will have experience living and working in northern
communities; extensive knowledge of arctic regions and issues including
human and environmental dimensions; and bring exceptional analytical and
communication skills, along with on-the ground community-focused
experience. Knowledge of philanthropy generally, and particularly within
Canada, is a significant asset.
