CONFERENCE INFORMATION
2004 is the 10th anniversary of the first US-Russian Joint Session of
the Arctic Science Conference, and in October 2004 Iceland's
Chairmanship of the Arctic Council concludes, highlighted by the
publication of the Arctic Climate Impact Assessment and the Arctic Human
Development Report. We wish to mark these occasions by again joining our
Russian colleagues to address a broad set of Arctic themes, and by then
focusing in Anchorage on important human aspects of Arctic conditions.
The sessions will be scheduled so that participants may attend either or
both.
The Anchorage meeting will include reports from the Russian session and
highlights of the two Arctic Council efforts, plus opening and closing
plenaries and nine parallel thematic sessions and posters on the
abilities of Arctic peoples to sustain their health, lifestyles and
cultures, and economies in the face of natural and human-induced
stresses.
