"Cryosols: Genesis, Ecology and Management" will be held in the city of
Arkhangelsk, Russian on 1-8 August 2005 and will feature 1-day and 3-day
field excursions in this vicinity. The conference will focus on the
following problems of cryosol investigations:
- Genesis, classification, and terminology of cryosols (soils,
affected by perennial or seasonal freezing) - Soil databases and mapping of cryosols in the arctic and antarctic
- Paleocryosols as indicators of the past environments and climate
change - Carbon pools and functions of cryosols for the polar ecosystems
- Contamination of soil landscapes in the north
- Cryosols' features and regimes and their change due to different
types of management (agriculture, forestry, and reclamation after
mining)
There will also be a round table discussion focusing on approaches to
environmentally-oriented interpretations of soil data in polar regions.
Registration Deadline: Friday, 31 December 2004
The tentative deadline for submission of 1-page abstracts in English is
15 April 2005.
