2012 Alaska Marine Science Symposium
16-20 January 2012
Anchorage, Alaska
The 2012 Alaska Marine Science Symposium will be held 16-20 January 2012
at the Hotel Captain Cook and the Dena'ina Center in Anchorage, Alaska.
Registration for the symposium is free. Online registration closes
today, Friday, 6 January 2012. On-site registration will be available
throughout the symposium.
Plenary and poster sessions feature a broad spectrum of ocean science,
including the fields of climate, oceanography, lower trophic levels, the
benthos, fishes and invertebrates, seabirds, marine mammals, local and
traditional knowledge, and socioeconomic research. The symposium will
also include keynote speakers, workshops, and special sessions.

- Abstract Deadline Extended
44th International Liege Colloquium on Ocean Dynamics
7-11 May 2012
Liege, Belgium
The abstract submission deadline for the 44th International Liege
Colloquium on Ocean Dynamics has been extended to Sunday, 15 January
2012. The meeting, entitled "Remote Sensing of Colour, Temperature, and
Salinity--New Challenges and Opportunities," will be convened 7-11 May
2012 in Liege, Belgium.
The development of new sensors and algorithms has extended the
application of ocean remote sensing to new research domains. New data
analysis techniques are allowing improvements in the quality of the
datasets used for oceanographic and climatic research. The use of
satellite-derived salinity, as a fairly new dataset, is an exciting
opportunity to improve our knowledge of the ocean dynamics and
ocean-atmosphere interactions.
The 2012 Liege Colloquium will be devoted to the latest developments in
the research fields of salinity, temperature, and ocean color remote
sensing. Open scientific questions and new research directions are of
particular interest.
Extended abstract submission deadline: Sunday, 15 January 2012.

Arctic Science Summit Week
19-22 April 2012
Montreal, Canada
Organizers of the Arctic Science Summit Week (ASSW) 2012 announce that
registration and lodging for the meeting are now available, at:
http://www.assw2012.org. The meeting will be held 19-22 April 2012 in
Montreal, Canada, in conjunction with the IPY 2012 From Knowledge to
Action conference.
The ASSW is an annual gathering of international organizations engaged
in supporting and facilitating arctic research. The purpose is to
provide opportunities for international coordination, collaboration, and
cooperation in all fields of arctic science and to combine science and
management meetings.
