The U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Science is now accepting
applications for Office of Biological and Environmental Research (BER)
grants for under-represented research within the program.

Priority will be given to applications that use or extend the new
capabilities of the Recovery Act Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM)
Climate Research Facility instrumentation, address topics within the
aerosol-cloud-precipitation interactions area, or propose program
relevant studies involving the recent/ongoing campaigns. Links to
suggested campaigns are available at:
http://asr.science.energy.gov/news/program-news/post/3096.

Successful applications will be part of the Atmospheric System Research
(ASR) Program in the Climate and Environmental Sciences Division (CESD).
The mission of ASR is to improve the treatment of clouds, precipitation,
aerosols, and radiative transfer processes in atmospheric models, that
in turn are combined with ocean, terrestrial, and ice sheet models to
make projections of climate change.

Potential applicants are required to submit a brief preapplication,
referencing DE-FOA-0000647. Preapplications should consist of a single
PDF or text file containing a cover sheet plus no more than three pages
of narrative describing the research objectives and which research area,
the technical approach, and the proposed team members and their
expertise. Applicants for collaborative projects should submit a single
preapplication identifying all project participants.

Preapplications should be sent via email to ASR Program Manager Ashley
Williamson (Ashley.Williamson [at] science.doe.gov) with "Preapplication -
DE-FOA-0000647 [PI Last name and Lead Institution]" in the subject line.
Only those preapplicants that receive notification from DOE encouraging
a formal application may submit full applications, which will be due 16
April 2012.

Preapplication deadline: Friday, 24 February 2012 at 5:00 p.m. EST.
